Your Very Own FLDSMDFR in Your Kitchen

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs would cause anyone to have massive cravings after watching the film. And if that wasn’t punishment enough, moviemakers even released a second franchise, although it was more creepy than yummy. Just when you think such food fest can only happen in movies, Fodini happened. It’s your very own Flint Lockwood’s Diatomic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator (FLDSMDFR), although you might want to ditch the Flint Lockwood for something else.

Fodini is a 3D printer that makes real food, which means it doesn’t use plastic or other materials, but edible ingredients. Don’t believe it? You should. Natural Machines, the creator of Fodini, used the same concept and process as the 3D printer, except for the materials used. So what’s the buzz all about?

Not another lazy-aid technology

According to Lynette Kucsma, co-founder of Natural Machines, Foodini only takes care of tasks that make food preparation less enjoyable. It sort of promotes home-cooking for people who would prefer to dine out rather than labor for hours over one meal. With prep and cooking time cut short, more people might want to just dine in.

It promotes healthy eating

Since Foodini requires the use of fresh ingredients, you are assured of a certain level of freshness and healthiness. To date, however, the machine only prints out dishes that would have to be cooked as usual. That is, it only prepares pizza to perfection, but you still have to bake it in an oven.

As a means to eliminate any limitations, the creators are partnering with food manufacturers to develop pre-packaged plastic capsules of food that you only need to load into the machine. In keeping with the healthy element, the capsules would be devoid of preservatives.

It may be hard to imagine how Foodini works, but the idea that you are one step closer to having your own FLDSMDFR right at home would be enough to make your mouth water.
