Western Digital My Cloud | NAS Storage that goes in the clouds

With all the different types of devices that we have at home and in our pockets there is always a need for storage. However we do not always have the opportunity to take them with us physically. Storage on the cloud of web services is a solution but alternatively you can point to an external hard drive to act as personal cloud such as the Western Digital My Cloud launched today. Externally, the drive is not much different from other 3.5″ external drives. The shape is that of a book resting on the vertical which in fact borrows the aesthetics from My Book and unlike similar products is designed to use static and always connected to the Internet and to our home network.

The drive will operate as a NAS and therefore does not need to be formatted for PC or Mac thus behaving as a normal network drive. What sets it apart however is the ability to access data from anywhere, either via an app or a web interface that allows us to upload or download data as if the drive was there with us.

There are also functions to stream DLNA compatible devices such as smart TVs, game consoles and media players. Western Digital My Cloud is available in denominations of 2TB for $ 150, 3TB for $ 180 and 4TB for $ 250 with the ability to expand the storage space of traditional connecting an additional external drive or hard drive.
