The Face ID of the iPhone X

The Face ID of the iPhone X is so advanced that the Android competition will not be able to emulate it for another year yet. And when they succeed, the apple will have pulled out some other devilry: do we bet?

Analysts say it since last year: Apple’s facial recognition gives her at least two years of competitive advantage; and in fact that’s how things are going. Producing the new S9 costs Samsung almost as much as an iPhone X to Apple, yet does not contain all its sophisticated technology, let alone a 3D sensor.

And that’s why Android phones are still forced to adopt a fingerprint sensor, placed among other things under the body: integrating it in the display, in fact, would be too complicated to produce.

And so, Apple is once again driving the new high-tech trends, with a gap that will give her time to work out the necessary countermeasures for next year. And while the others emulate the copyable, ie the carving of the iPhone X and the Animoji, Reuters tells the sidereal distance that separates them:

The bottlenecks on key components imply that mass adoption of 3D sensors will not happen before next year, disrupting initial expectations. This means that the Chinese Huawei, Xiaomi and others may be back at least two years compared to Apple, which launched its Face ID with the iPhone X anniversary last September.

The problem, in fact, is not so much the technology itself; the fact is that at present it is impossible to get hold of the special VCSEL laser diodes which are used for Face ID; in other words Apple, coming first, has secured the bulk of the production. And while the others are recovering, the apple is not in panciolle: only in 2018 will it invest more than 14 billion in research and development, the most significant figure ever for the company, and even higher than what was spent in total from 1998 to 2011 .
