Panasonic Toughbook FZ-G1 and JT-B1 introduced at CES

When it comes to tablet, Panasonic is not the first brand that comes to mind. But on rugged devices designed to withstand prohibitive environmental conditions you do not need to think twice, the Japanese company is a real institution in the field. All the wealth of experience gained with its Toughbook for several years now flowing even in the Toughpad line which now expands with two new models diametrically opposed to price, features, and diagonally.

The first of the two new entries is the Toughpad FZ-G1, the first fully rugged tablet of the house to equip Windows 8 Pro. One of the most interesting aspects is the high-density display with IPS Alpha Panel, a technology developed in conjunction with Hitachi that allows wide viewing angles and brightness suitable for outdoors. The resolution is as high as 1920 × 1200 pixels 16:10. Under the shell there is a powerful Core i5-3437U with support vPro, 4GB DDR3 and SSD 128G and a budget typical of ports and connectivity including GPS. An unusually powerful hardware for a device of this type (and this size) so that you can even dare use in CAD or 3D directly in the field wherever you are.

Another Toughpad JT-B1 which instead relies on Android 4.0 and a diagonal of 7″ for a device more portable and lightweight. The resolution of the screen comes down to 1024 × 768 while the SoC used to power the system is a dual-core OMAP 4460 from Texas Instruments backed by 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. As is tradition for both tablet specifications are in line with MIL-STD-810G and IP65 which in a nutshell means that the devices are ready to withstand use and abuse not only human but even by most of the forces of nature whether it be hot, cold, sand, rain, dust and water.
