Lenovo ThinkPad Helix will not come out in February

Remember the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix? One of the many hybrid Ultrabooks built around Windows 8 with a quick release between particular form tablet and keyboard dock that allows coupling and tilting the screen to the outside. This convertible appeared during the days of CES 2013 and there was talk of an arrival date scheduled for the month of February. “It’s February, where is the Helix?” Asked one user on the Facebook page of Lenovo. So we ask ourselves: where is the Helix?

Bad news for those hoping to take it home later this month: the Helix has been postponed to a date yet to be defined in a period between March and April. The news come directly from Lenovo and their Facebook page, responding directly to the question mentioned earlier. “Unfortunately we had news that it will be delayed until March or April, more details will be announced soon” – writes a PR of the house.

The specific spread by Lenovo spoke of a third generation Intel i7 Core, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, 256GB of SSD storage, an IPS ultra-dense 1080p screen and a curious system with unspecified overclocking, perhaps something different from the usual mode of Intel Turbo. Weight and autonomy are not the best, with only 835g for the tablet form and only 5 hours of life on a single charge (or 10 hour mode dock).

Beyond the undoubted versatility and the rare power packed into the small 11.6″ chassis, we do not think that the Helix has wounded many hearts. Reason? $ 1499 list price is hard to swallow and out of reach for too many portfolios, unjustified even by an innovative format and hardware of the latest generation of hardware.
