4 Important Gadgets to Jumpstart Your Freelance Career

A career shift from being a salaried employee to becoming a successful freelance writer entails a lot of things, from having the passion for what you do and equipping yourself with the right gadgets to get your work  done. Remember, bloggers and writers out there have the resolve to make it, not to mention hours behind their desks, writing. As the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, join them.

Most, if not all, freelance writers, are digital nomads. They prefer to write in coffee shops or while traveling. Some use several gadgets to get their work done while others are content with using a laptop, as long as there is WiFi connection. Just what are the essential gadgets for freelance writing?

Laptop

This is the basic thing you need to write virtually anywhere. A 13-inch Macbook  Air is ideal for portability and performance, especially if you will be using it mainly for writing. On the hand, if prefer better resolution, go for a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro. For me, I prefer a wider screen, 15-inch or wider so I can research while I write, although it has a downside because of its bulkiness and weight.

Phablet

Some also invest on a phablet, a phone and tablet in one, to make their work easier. They use this to check their emails from clients, talk to clients or send them messages. What’s great about this gadget is doing away with a smart phone and a tablet.

External Hard Drive

Another important piece of technology for freelance bloggers is a storage device to keep their files secure even if their laptops die down on them. Most storage devices can last up to 10 years and storage capacity can range from 250 GB to 2 TB.

Portable Music Player

This is an essential device especially if you will be working in a place where it can be noisy. If you have Spotify or any music app on your laptop, you can connect a reliable headset and you are good to go.

Tapping your creativity and coming up with killer content is not enough with mere writing skills. Equipping yourself with the right tools of the trade or rather, gadgets, gets the work done and more efficiently.
