Michael Thomasson from New York won the record for the largest collection of video games in the world, owning 10,607 pieces! His name will be featured in the Guinness World Records 2014 Gamer’s Edition. The collection, which takes up the entire basement of his home in Buffalo, comprising of old video games until games for the Xbox and PlayStation.

He says that he started collecting video games 30 years ago, when he owned his first game, the Cosmic Avenger, that was a Christmas gift from his grandparents. He was then 12 years old. However, he had to wait a whole year to play until his parents got him the Colecovision console. Thomasson sold twice his collecting games and rebuilt the entire collection from the beginning!

Today it is estimated that this video game treasure is worth about 700,000 to 800,000 dollars. The number of his games left in the second place, Richard Lecce American from Florida who had 8,616 games in 2010. Thomasson says, that the collection has surpassed the 11,000 games, a year after the official count.
