Sony will stream 4K by the summer | PS4 involved?

The prices of a handful of 4K TV on the market are still prohibitive but it is mathematically firm that the costs of this standard will always be less exaggerated. Sooner or later the time will come that we will have to choose between a Full HD format or a HD Ultra-diagonal, but with the advantage of ultra-dense resolution.

In an interview with The Verge, the chief operating officer and president of Sony Electronics Phil Molyneux said that the company has no intention of waiting for a proper physical media capable of supporting the new standard in high definition. “The whole world is moving more and more towards download,” says Molyneux including Sony which is working to define a platform for digital distribution of content to 4K. Whether it has something to do with the PlayStation 4 is still a mystery but it is very likely, if not inevitable, given that the new console has all it takes to help the corporation to grow 4K, a bit like PS3 has helped to grow Blu-ray.

In the interview the boss said that even if the study of ways to reduce the burden of downloading movies Ultra HD, the first generation will have to deal with giant files (100 gigabytes if not more) depending on the duration. Not just an obstacle even for internet connections that we call “high speed” in our countries.

“We have some good ideas to make the experience more comfortable” added Molyneux and among them there may be a night time download system like the one already in use on the downloader of PS3 games. The platform of digital delivery in 4K was announced in early January and there is talk of a debut expected as early as this summer that will begin with a series of remasterings of films already released on Blu-ray 1080p.
