To ensure the price distribution of only $ 99, Nintendo has decided to totally eliminate not just any online features, but also the SD card slot and make it impossible for backward compatibility with the now ancestral Nintendo GameCube games. Here is what Matt Ryan said:

There are players who have decided not to buy Wii for various reasons while the owners of the console might want to buy a second game machine to take in maybe a second home or in your chalet, so the functionality in the network would be superfluous” . Ryan then reveals the target of Canadian consumers to which it is addressed the Wii Mini, which will be released tomorrow.
Ryan added: “Wii has a playground more than 1400 pieces, including many not have any functionality in the network. Wii Mini was not designed for players who are looking to have fun online.
