A flexible smartphone by Samsung

Samsung is ready to begin mass production of smartphones with folding screens which makes devices thinner and lighter as well as unbreakable. According to the Wall Street Journal the first phones of this family should be ready by July 2013. The report also adds the possibility that a device like this could be presented in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CEO).

It will be a model with screen OLED which stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes that emit their own light. It does not have the classical backlight of the LCD display which imposes greater thicknesses but of an efficient technology from the point of view of volumes and energy consumption which guarantees brilliant results thanks to the use of a sequence of thin organic layers between two conductors capable of generating a bright illumination making the screens thinner and lighter compared to traditional ones.

At the Consumer Electronic Show 2011 Samsung demonstrated this technology in a malleable screen of 4.5 inches with a thickness of 0.3 mm, capable of being folded into a cylindrical shape without breaking. The product has attracted much curiosity. It seems likely that OLED technology is destined for great success in the future.
